Merced County Library Card Initiative
Hilmar High School, in partnership with the Merced County Library, is participating in a county wide literacy initiative to obtain library cards for all Merced county students. Students with parent signed application forms will be able to obtain a county library card through Hilmar High School. This eliminates parents having to visit a county library branch with multiple forms of identification to apply.
Applications will be handed out soon by your student’s English teacher. Applications will need to be signed by a parent or guardian and be returned to their teacher. With teachers asking for higher quality work with multiple references, this will be an important resource for your student as they progress towards graduation. Some of the benefits in having a Merced county library card are listed below.
Privileges & Services include:
- Merced County Library Online Databases,Unlimited access to all of the Academic Search Complete, Auto Repair Reference Center, Consumer Health, Points of View, Science Reference Center, Social Studies Fact Cards and many others. including:
- Free transit and delivery of items ordered from member SJVLS library catalogs This includes the Hilmar County library location next to the high school. (Please note that all Merced County Library policies including fines apply.)
- Available internet use at all Merced County Library branches and member SJVLS libraries including the mobile Bookmobile. (juveniles must have the parental permission box checked on application for card)
- To bring library services to residents in areas without immediate access to a library branch, a Bookmobile is available for several locations. This includes: Ballico, Cressey, Planada, South Dos Palos, South Merced and Stevinson. Available items including books, multimedia items, and internet access are available in English and Spanish. Digital E-Books
Never worry about late fees or damages, students will be able to check out and read books through Merced County’s 3M cloud library. This is an e-book service that has thousands of fiction and non-fiction e-book titles available for download. This service offers three different interfaces: PC App, Web App and Mobile App and is compatible with the following devices: PC, Android, iPad, iPhone, iTouch, Kobos and Nook.
NOTE: This service has been verified to work with HUSD issued devices.
