The Jacket Way: Respectful in How We Speak and Listen

One of the things we love seeing across our campus is our young Yellowjackets finding their voices. Every day, students are being encouraged to share their thinking, ask questions, explain their ideas, listen to one another, and engage in meaningful conversations with their classmates.
Speaking and listening are important parts of learning in high school, but they are also skills our students will carry with them long after they leave Hilmar High School. Whether they are interviewing for a job, working with a team, participating in a college class, or simply having a conversation with someone who sees things differently, being able to communicate and listen well matters.
We want our students to feel confident using their voices while also understanding the value of truly listening to others. When students are talking, listening, thinking, and learning together, they are preparing for much more than a test or a grade. They are preparing for life. 

Every Day Counts: Attendance Update

We are off to a strong start with attendance at Hilmar High School! As of September 18, our schoolwide average daily attendance is 98.49%, with an average of just 11 students absent each day. We are especially proud of the consistency our students are showing. Regular attendance matters because being in class every day gives students the opportunity to learn, stay connected, and make progress toward their goals. In high school, missing even one class period means missing a full day of instruction for that particular class, since students typically have that class only once each day. Thank you, families, for helping make attendance a priority. Every day and every period counts!

We Would Love to See You at Our First ELAC Meeting!

If you are a parent or guardian of an English Learner, we invite you to join us for our first ELAC meeting of the year on September 22nd at 3:15pm. This is a chance to meet with other families, learn about the support we provide for our English Learners, ask questions, and share your ideas. Last year, and continuing this year, we have been working hard to add supports that help our students build their English skills and reach reclassification. Reclassification means students have reached the level of English proficiency they need to be successful in all of their classes. It can also give students more choices in their schedules and more opportunities to take courses and participate in programs that can help prepare them for college, careers, and life after high school. Your voice matters, and we want to hear from you! We hope you can join us!

Jacket Time: Building Spirit and Supporting Academics

Float building is just one example of how students are making the most of Jacket Time. Our Sewing and Craft Group also met during enrichment this week with a fantastic turnout!
While enrichment activities are a great way for students to get involved, Jacket Time is also a crucial resource for academic support. With progress reports coming out, this dedicated time allows students to catch up on assignments, receive extra help, and stay on track.
As you review your student's grades, please talk with them about how they can best use Jacket Time to support their academic success.
We need your help to win $1,000,000 for Hilmar High through the T-Mobile Friday Night Lights 5G competition!

  • Friday Lunch Volunteers: We are looking for 1–2 parent volunteers each Friday through October (excluding Homecoming) from 11:40 AM to 12:22 PM to capture our students' green and gold spirit in front of our weekly FNL backdrop! Student lunch runs from 11:47 AM to 12:22 PM, so arriving at 11:40 AM gives you time to check in at the main office and grab the camera—we provide all the equipment, so we just need your time and energy. You'll get a front-row seat to see the fantastic backdrop masterpieces our students create each week! The photo station will be set up outside in the office patio area. Volunteers must sign up in advance by calling the main office.
